06

How do I make my home feel current?

Always pick pieces that YOU like and that compliment your home and lifestyle, remember that trends will come and go.

07

How do I choose the right light for my space?

First, identify any and all activities that will occur in that space (watching tv, food preparation, laundry, homework, etc.) and whether the space will require one or multiple types of light, then identify the mood you want to create as well as any decorative elements you want to emphasize. Also, be sure to remember that any dark walls or colours absorb light and may require supplementary lighting. If you’re remodeling, be sure to also note all existing electrical locations.

08

What is the difference between ambient and task lighting?

Ambient lighting is the type of lighting that provides a space with an overall illumination and is also known as general lighting. It’s the main source of light that provides a comfortable level of brightness in your space and allows you to move and operate easily and safely. Ambient and/or general lighting is achieved through the use of chandeliers, ceiling, wall-mounted fixtures, and recessed lights.
Task lighting is a form of supplemental lighting that adds light to a space in order to help perform a task like reading, cooking, or working. This type of lighting is achieved by utilizing recessed or track lighting, pendant lights, under cabinet lighting, or by desk or floor lamps.

09

How can I highlight a specific area in my home?

Utilize accent lighting. Accent lights can be used to direct focus to a particular design element or highlight a specific aspect of your space. If you want to add focus to paintings or sculptures, or highlight the texture or finish or a wall, window treatment, or outdoor landscaping, this can all be achieved through accent lighting.
